And I come to find out that

D.A.R.S. has, whether intentionally or not, given me critical information regarding my SSD and benefits incorrectly, several times…I stand a chance at loosing all my benefits…I’m not looking to “live” off the system, in fact I’m working my ass off to find where I can thrive and be happy, regardless or perhaps even because of my so called “disability.”
Why should I allow a governmental and sociological lable define my self worth? F*CK that!
In order for us to grow and learn, we model and learn the behavior of others, short of this we are only best at learning “facts” and “things” but not understand the process we call behavior….forget neurology, social psychology…
Education is never about the content absorbed, but how that content and process fits into the context…In other words, it is all about the processes and “procedures” or internal representations of things, not the things in themselves…. We learn how to learn…If this approach were taken, those with DDs and other disabilities would be more apt to find that productive niche in society, and not feel embattled all the while trying to do so.
The “system” is a failure for the most part. We have, for example 24% of the homeless population represented by our Veterans of Foreign Wars….This is a moral failure on the part of the United States Government, for sure….but it’s more so a failure of American peoples, we are after all, the Government…by the People, for the People. We hide from and sweep into corners those things that remind us of our shame.
The mentally and physically other abled average person in the united states are wandering streets, living out of trash cans, Veterans that had a huge percentage of PTSD, today are being discharged from the military and told that they came into the service with that pre existing, flat out lying….I know there having legal actions over it already
What are we so afraid to look at? What are we so ashamed of?
I’m beginning to believe I have the answer (for myself), but don’t ask me to tell you the answer, that’s something you’ll have to find for yourself.

The Bureaucratic Mirage and Equal Treatment Under the law

I wonder if anyone else is tired of being treated differently because of a developmental, emotional, mental, or physical disability? I imagine there must be such as myself.
While we have been granted equal rights by such as the Americans with Disabilities Act American society seems still determined to box us up, put us on a shelf in the closet and not deal with the real issues.
In my latest dealings with the “Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services” of Texas, I am overcome with both the overall patronizing attitude and failure to perform even the most basic of rehabilitative support…sustaining more problem issues on account of the organization, than prior to having even heard of them.
Having been similarly disabled my entire life, and consistently on medication for the same for over 8 years, this agency has caused so many issues that I am facing time off of medication, and a decompensation into an illness that would frighten the most stout of heart.
I say, “what is so ‘assistive’ or ‘rehabilitative’ about D.A.R.S.?
I was overtly abused by a D.A.R.S. contractor…sexually innapropriate touching, racist and sexist comments…after initially reporting this I was told by the counselor “well, WHAT do you expect ME to do?”…… ahhhh YOUR JOB?
Fully insured, supposedly fully “assisted” not even the most primary basic needs have been addressed properly by this organization, causing more chaos and disorder than prior even to their involvement.
What is worse, no one cares, nor wishes to take any proper responsibility in their actions (or lack thereof.)
Mental and developmental disabilities have the pleasure of not being easily seen by people, thefore, denied, ridiculed, swept under the rug as not relevant….This is true both on a local social scale as well as the government/societal levels. I wonder sometimes if we aren’t trully ensconsed somewhere in the dark ages with a veil over us called “2007″?
